Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the relations between corruption and income distribution inequality in Tur-key for the period 1984-2014. Causality test based on the Toda-Yamamoto method recommended by Hacker and Hatemi-J (2012) and the cointegration tests of Johansen and Juselius are used to investigate the relationship between income distribu-tion and corruption. In this context, the Theil Index recommen-ded by Elveren (2012, 2013) and Elveren and Galbraith (2009) is used as a measure of income distribution inequality and cor-ruption index taken from International Country Risk Guide (ICRG) Table 3B is used as a measure of corruption. The series first checked for unit root by performing Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) and Phillips – Perron unit root tests. After that, Jo-hansen cointegration and Hacker and Hatemi-J (2012) causality tests are performed. According to Johansen cointegration test, there is a long-term relationship between the series. The results of Hacker Hacker and Hatemi-J (2012) test indicate that there is no causality relations between corruption and income distribu-tion inequality.
