Abstract
The political, social and economic impact of the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution lasted at least as long as the French Revolution. At the beginning of the 20th century, Tsarist Russia took its share of the liberation movements brought by the French Revolution; the economic crises in the country and the pressures of the Tsarist administration towards the people have often caused uprisings and strikes. This disorder ended with the Revolution of 1917 and political ideas brought by the Revolution spread to different geographies of the World in time. In this study, it was aimed to expose the influence of the 1917 Revolution in the Ottoman press as well as the influence of the Revolution over the Ottoman political and social circles through the press. In this sense, the way in which the news and comments about the Bolsheviks were perceived by the Ottoman government and the manner in which the Revolution was reflected in the public was included in this study. The way of the Ottoman press’ handling of the issue was evaluated by mentioning news and comments about the Revolution from its beginning until 1920. By considering how the ideas, that brought by the revolution, were received by the Ottoman government and press, the politics that the Allies followed in this process were explained. Finally the concerns about the Revolution were tried to be explained by examining the newspapers of Ikdam, Tanin and Sabah which are among the important press organs of the period.
