Abstract
After the annexation of East Georgia in 1801, the main target of Tsarist Russia was the Azerbaijani khanates. Because capturing of the whole region up to the shores of the Caspian Sea was the main target of Russia. However Iran was objected to this. The two states fought between 1804 and 1813 to rule the region. As a result of these wars, some of the Azerbaijani khanates accepted the Russian protection against Iranian threats. Those who disagree were occupied by Russia. One of the Khanates who accepted the Russian patronage because of the Iranian threat was the Khanate of Karabakh. Some studies related to the Karabakh Khanate was done previously in Turkey. But the most important thing that distinguishes this study from them, it is the first time that the process of annexation of the Khanate of Karabakh to Russia is evaluated in detail in this study. During the investigation of the matter, the sources of the period and published archival documents were examined and Kavkazya newspaper, the only newspaper published in Russian, was scanned.
