Abstract
It is known that the social balance in the society in the Ottoman period was provided by foundations to a great extent. The foundation institution left deep traces in the Ottoman social life such as housing, stability, urbanism, education, culture, social services and economic benefits. Indeed, many social services, especially education and training services, have not been seen in the world history of a society and a state in which no state has been contributed. The Ottomans are exceptional in this regard. In order to contribute to the Turkization and Islamization of Anatolia, many structures such as zawiyas, hospices, fountains, public baths, inns, mosques, prayer rooms, madrasahs, hospitals and complexes composed of these buildings were formed and the physical and social infrastructure of the region was completed. Thus, a livable environment was first created in Anatolia, then in the Balkans and in Europe. As a result, settlement, a residential order began to grow up. Especially, zawiyas had an important place in resettlement, Turkization and Islamization. They were especially effective in securing security. In the documents, "ayende ve revendeye" (ie, " serve the passerby") is mentioned in particular. In this period, when there is no communication possibility, by ensuring all sections of the society come together, zawiyas played an important role in providing stability and peace and the integration of the society around specific goals. In this work, we will try to reveal the place and importance of the zawiyas in the region and the situation in the Ottoman civilization by giving samples from the zawiyas in the Sanjak of Hamid. 1501, the Sanjak of Hamid had 216 foundation works and 88 of them were zawiyas. In 1530, there were 303 foundations in the total Sanjack. The 103 of these foundations are zawiya and 5 are dervish lodge foundations (waqf). They were generally located in sanjaks from east to west and south to north on road routes. Some of them were transferred to the Ottomans from Hamidoğullari.
