Abstract

Turkey did not actively take part in the World War II. She stayed out of the war for a long time by signing agreements that guaranteed bilateral non-aggression and security. Turkey abandoned this policy and declared war to Germany and Japan only when the defeat of the Axis Powers was certain and the Allied Powers started to take steps towards a new world order. In this study, the reflections of Turkey’s declaration of war in the press will be assessed through several national and foreign newspapers. The objective of the study is to reveal the difference between the Turkish press that supported the Turkey’s decision of war declaration and strove to present the rightfulness of Turkey’s position on the one hand, and the foreign press that kept the critical view towards the Turkish foreign policy during the WWII years while considering war declaration of Turkey as a positive step, on the other.
