Epidemics are one of the most frequent naturaldisasters in the Ottoman lands. In the Ottomangeography, especially the port cities, mainlyIstanbul and Izmir, were the main centers of thedisease. Plague was the most widespread of theepidemics until the 17th century, which gave rise togreat loss. In addition to the studies on 16th and17th century plague, one of the important sourcesrelated to the subject is the documents in the GenoaState Archives. Especially the letters and reports ofGenoese envoys and consuls who served in theOttoman lands during the centuries mentioned areparticularly invaluable and contain significantinformation. One of the subjects of thecorrespondence of these officials, who were alsogood observers, is about what happened to them inthe Ottoman lands.
