Özet

1950 Genel Seçimleri, CHP yöneticileri için beklenmedik birşekilde sonuçlanmıştır. Özellikle CHP’nin seçimlerikazanması durumunda başbakanlık koltuğuna oturmasıbeklenen Nihat Erim için şok etkisi yaratmıştır. Hayalkırıklığına uğrayan Erim, 1950 Seçimlerinin sonuçlarını bir“kaza” olarak görmüş ve “milletin DP tarafından 1950’yekadar geçen zaman içinde aldatıldığı”, “14 Mayıs’ta milletinaldanma duygusuna kapılarak DP’yi iktidara getirdiği” tezinisavunmaya başlamıştır. 1946-1950 yılları arasında uzlaşmacıbir siyasi portre çizmiş olan Erim, halka gerçekleri anlatmakve göstermek adına dört yıl boyunca DP iktidarına yönelikuzlaşmaz ve amansız bir muhalefet politikası yürütmüştür.CHP Genel Başkanı İnönü’den aldığı örtülü destekle ve UlusGazetesi’nin başında olmanın verdiği avantajlarla sertmuhalefetini, CHP’nin genel politikası haline getirmiştir.Eleştirilerinin odak noktası, rejimin geleceği ile ilgilikonulardı. Muhalefetteyken demokratik ilerlemeyihızlandıracağı sözünü veren DP, iktidara geldikten sonrasözünü unutarak tam tersi bir politika izlemeye başlamıştır.Erim tarafından, DP’nin gerçek amacının diktatörlük kurmakolduğu seçmene anlatılmasına rağmen; 1954 GenelSeçimlerinde seçmen yine DP’yi tercih etmiştir. Erim’in1954 Seçimlerini, önceki seçimlerin aksine, olgunluklakarşılayıp kabullendiği ve sert muhalefet metodunudeğiştirdiği görülmüştür.

Abstract

The 1950 General Elections resulted unexpectedly forRPP administrators. It had a shocking effect especiallyfor Nihat Erim, who was expected to be prime ministerin case the RPP wins the elections. Erim wasdisappointed and he considered the results of the 1950elections as an "accident" and started to defend thethesis that "the nation was deceived by the DP until1950," “on May 14th, the nation got the feeling ofdeceit and brought the DP to power”. Erim, who haddrawn a conciliatory political portrait between 1946and 1950, pursued an uncompromising and ruthlessopposition policy towards the DP government for fouryears to tell and show the truth to the public. With thecovert support he received from RPP Chairman İnönüand the advantages of being the head of UlusNewspaper, he turned his harsh opposition into thegeneral policy of the RPP. The focus of his criticismwas on issues related to the future of the regime. TheDP, which promised to accelerate the democraticprogress while in opposition, forgot its promise aftercoming to power and started to follow an oppositepolicy. Although it was explained by Erim to the votersthat the real purpose of DP is to establish a dictatorship;in the 1954 General Elections, the voters againpreferred DP. Unlike the previous elections, Erimaccepted the result of 1954 Elections with maturity andchanged his harsh opposition method.
