Abstract
The castle, which protected the city called Ağrıboz /Eğriboz during the Ottoman period and Chalkistoday, was taken from the Venetians by Fatih SultanMehmed in 1470. Over time, the castle became oneof the most important centers of the OttomanEmpire in the Mediterranean. Its location andimportance necessitated the constant maintenanceof the castle. The most costly repair of the castle, which has been repaired many times from itsconquest until it was lost by the Ottoman Empire, isafter the Venetian siege. Earthquakes experiencedoutside the encirclement also affected the castle. Therepairs were not only related to fortifications butalso included structures such as waterways andarches, mosques, fountains, and buildings. Thescope of the repairs and the things that have beendone have prepared the ground for thetransformation of the castle into an Ottomanstructure. The castle, which was destroyed towardsthe end of the XIXth century, was an important lossin terms of Ottoman and world cultural heritage. Inthis regard, the repairs of the Ağrıboz Castle fromthe time of the Venetian siege to 1715 wereexamined in the light of archive documents.
