Abstract

Florence Nightingale was one of the most important fi gures who revealedthe laws of nursing- describing the fi rst approach by defi ning nursingand contributing to the development of the world and our country. Sheconsidered nursing as preparing the best conditions for returning a patientback to life. She saw the environment as the most important factor.Under the conditions in which she worked, she noticed that disciplinewithin the team, the use of a common language, and the education ofcaregivers were very important. She proposed that women who wouldbe entrusted with the care of the sick needed to be specially trained. She was one of the pioneers in home care services by offering a planin which the educated women were employed as private nurses in thehospitals and the regions where they lived.Under this direction, individuals who undergo a particular surgery areat risk of complications and the home healing process is important. Forthis reason, the identifi cation of problems that individuals experienceis so important in terms of planning home care services. In addition, anurse who visits the home has such responsibilities as evaluating the environment, providing information against damaging factors, preventingexposure to environmental risks, having adequate and current informationregarding environmental health, and questioning the credibility ofthis information. As a result, it is important that surgical nurses design effective and comprehensivedischarge training and educate their patients correctly bygathering information about their surroundings and their appropriaterequirements.
