Abstract

In this study,, the prevalences of rotavirus and adenovirus were investigated in childhood patients with gastroenteritis. In stool of 0-7 ages childhood patients who applied to Gulhane Military Medical Academy Haydarpaşa Training Hospital Department of Pediatrics with diarrhea, rotavirus and adenovirus were determined by Rot-Adeno Quick Stick (Gamma Sa, Belgium) kits. In study group, 8 (22%) of 36 were rotavirus positive and 4 (11%) of 36 were adeno-virus positive, while in control group only one (8.3%) of 12 was rota-virus positive. The most common signs and symptoms were diarrhea (36 cases, 100%), feeding imbalance (unnourish) (32 cases, 89%) and fever (31 cases, 86%). The signs of upper respiratory systems such as nose discharge and cough were found in 50% of patients with adenoviruses positive. The positivity of adenovirus and rotaviruses were found significantly higher in patients with clinic symptoms than control group (p=0.001).
