Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the effect of two different microtensile bond strength testing devices on the bond strength of adhesives to enamel. Materials and Methods: Specimens with bonding surface area of 1.16±0.16 mm2 were prepared using an etch&rinse adhesive (Adper Scotchbond 1 XT) and a self-etch adhesive (One Coat) with a resin composite (Z100). The microtensile bond strengths of the specimens were measured using flat and notched testing devices (n=18). Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the groups tested with either flat or notched testing devices with regard to enamel microtensile bond strength (two-way analysis of variance, p=0.726). The mixed type of failure was the most often seen failure pattern with both flat and notched testing devices used. Conclusions: There was no effect of the flat or notched testing devices used in microtensile bond strength test on the performance of Adper Scotchbond 1 XT and One Coat on enamel.
