Abstract
The casting method is one of the oldest manufacturing methods and it is a gradual process. The first of these processes is the design of model geometry and engineering alloy design to provide the required material properties. Although the choice of materials from these stages is not directly related to the foundry, the main task of the foundry man is the control of the process from solid filling into the mold cavity with the specified alloy and completion of solidification and production of solid parts. The molding design, which is referred to as the integrated form of the runners and feeders of the parts, is particularly difficult in parts with complex cross-section geometry. The molding design, which is called the integral of the runners and feeders of the parts is particularly difficult in parts with complex cross-section geometry. For this reason, as a result of adaptation of the developing computer technologies to the casting industry, molding designs can be modelled by computer technologies called casting simulation. Filling, solidification and cooling stages of any alloy can be modelled by casting simulation programs. Thus, the whole design process is carried out on the computer. energy consumption, cost and time loss for model preparation, molding and casting can be reduced. In summary, with carrying out the trial and error process on the computer, at the first casting, it has become possible to manufacture accurate solid parts. In today's intensely competitive environment, in addition to the sound manufacturing of the parts to the casting producers, it is also easier to increase the quality, reduce the cost and prevent delivery delays. Especially in the automotive industry where the production quantities are very high, these software have become the key to success for the foundries. In this study, by using OPTICAST module which is integrated with SOLIDCAST casting simulation program, nutritional optimization has been explained on a sample piece and advantages of optimization technique have been evaluated.
