Özet

Styloid proçes'in normalden aşırı uzun olması veya stylohyoid Hgamentin kalsifikasyonu sonucu birtakım patolojik semptomlar ortaya çıkmaktadır.

Abstract

Because of the abnormal long styloid process extending downward from the lower surface of the temporal bone or ossification of the stylohyoid ligament, pathological symptoms have appeared. It has been seen rarely, which is also known as Eagle's Syndrome. The main complaints of the patients were glossopharyngeal neuralgia, dysphagia of undetermined cause; stabbing pain in the region of the ear and the mouth and a feeling of tightness in the neck. A 40 years old, female patient was applied to Gülhane Military Medical Academy, Department of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology with the complaint of toothache. In anamnesis of the patient it was reported that the patient has complained about neck-pain for several years and the faintness during sudden head movements in addition to the vertigo. On the ortopantomography the resorption and radyoopacity like condensing osteitis has been marked in the one of tooth-roots of the left mandibular first molar. Furthermore it was observed that styloid processes were excessive long in regard to the normal measure bilaterally. According to these findings this case was considered to be Eagle's Syndrome. The presentation of this case report is to emphasize the importance of the detailed anamnesis and attentive evaluated ortopantomography for diagnosis.
