Abstract

In conservative dentistry, the most important matter which has to be paid attention is protection of the pulp vitality. Many factors such as trauma, caries, prosthetic restorations etc. are likely to cause the pulp to expose. In order to prevent the pulp tissue from the effects of these factors, the materials with calciumhydroxide have been used for many years. In this study, the pulps of deciduous molars of puppies have been experimentally exposed and the effects of tricalciumphosphate on pulp tissue have been investigated (the hydroxide calcium has been used as a control group). At the end of the 10, 20, 40, 60 day period, these teeth have been examined histologically. Following the assesment of the histologic findings, it has been found out that tricalciumphosphate and calciumhydroxide would not cause the irreversibl re¬action in the pulp tissue but the tricalciumphosphate was less irritant and more resorbable material than calciumhydroxide.
