Abstract

Some lithological discrimination methods were examined on the digital images ofM23cl section extracted from Landsat 5 TM satellite images, taken in 1987 over the Denizli and some parts of its surroundings. Lithological discrimination methods for visual interpretation used in this study are Abrams' and Sultan's methods, composite images of 741 and 754 TM bands, principle components analysis carried out on 6 TM bands and the principle components analysis on selective 4 TM bands, so called the Crosta method. When these images are compared with the 1:100000 scale geological map of the region, it has been observed that the best methods for the derivation of general lithological outline was the composite images consisting of 741 and 754 TM bands. But principle components analysis on 6 TM bands become more effective in the discrimination of same lithologies.
