Abstract
Spontaneous combustion tendency is generally determined in specially designed experimental set-ups. In this study, it is aimed to develop a model which predict spontaneous combustion tendency without needing such a set-up. This model needs only the proximate analysis and crossing point temperature data. Basing of the proposed model to proximate analysis data is coming from the facts that, spontaneous combustion is a function of chemical structure of coal. The constructed model is expected to satisfy all the criticisms made for the existing methods. For this purpose, crossing point temperature values of 37 different coal samples were determined. Also, the proximate analyses of the coal samples were performed. Single-and multi-variable regression analyses were applied on crossing point temperatures and results of the proximate analysis. The model which was derived from the multi-variable regression analysis gave meaningful correlation in explaining spontaneous combustion tendency of coal.
