Abstract

There is no one in the world, being indifferent to love peculiar to human being as a sacred sentiment. All the hearts have certainly tasted it. Love in the divan poetry is the central concern and focus, and everything takes shape according to it. It sometimes takes its place within the metaphors of Sufism, and sometimes it is seen as a material love in the divan poetry. Whatever it is, however, love is not the source of physical attraction in the divan poetry, yet it is considered the source of spiritual attraction. While love is being dealt with in the divan poetry, the sentiment and thought process of the Islamic culture contributes enormously to the argument of love. The divan poets determined the nature of love by employing some figures of speech in the divan poetry. Despite this, however, love not only consists of figures of speech, but it is also the reflection of a way of life into poetry. This study will try to arrive at a conclusion by examining the ways in which love is perceived.
