Abstract

Yahya Kemal is a poet who adopted making up perfect structures in poems as a poetic principle. What formed the perfectionist idea of Yahya Kemal was the modern French Poetry which he was closely acquainted with during the years he lived in Paris, and the Ottoman (Divan) Poetry that he read and interpreted with reconsiderations. The poet, wishing to make up perfect structures, made amendments in some verses of other poets for the sake of perfectionism. The same idea interrupted some of his poems as well. This study aims to point out the factors forming the perfectionist idea of Yahya Kemal, to show the points he particularly focused on when making amendments in the poems of other poets, and finally to interpret the indicators put forth in his interrupted poems about the poet’s working manners and view of poetry, coming to the point that he is a poet who regards working rather than inspiration.
