Abstract

With the "Tanzimat" movement, Turkish literature placed itself on the road to modernization by completely orienting itself more and more towards western sources. This new literature with a European, most particularly, French, inspiration, influenced a large number of Turkish writers of the epoch who used this new way of telling and writing as models for their own works. Tevfik Fikret, great poet of the period called "Servet-I Funun" that followed the "Tanzimat" period, remained loyal to the teaching of his predecessors and looked for the means to a new poetic language different from that of "Divan" poetry, a language that flourished and was only accessible to a mundane elite. In this regard he found in the poetry of Francois Coppee not only a language accessible to the general public but there was also a theme of charity that gave his work of "spoken poetry" a humanitarian inspiration. In this article we will first examine the works of Francois Coppee and of Tevfik Fikret, then conduct an intertextual analysis of the poems of Fikret composed under the influence of Coppee's humanitarian poems.
