A Maieute "At the Door of the Orient

Abstract

Nichita Stanescu is a 20th century Romanian poet who has an agressive originality, and who is impressed by the force of poetic images and by linguistic spontaneity. For him poetry is a fundamental component of existence, some sort of magic present in every human being that is capable of dragging him out of the void and revealing the truth. Thus the poet becomes a "maieute", a midwife of souls.
