Abstract

Exercise test is an integral part of the diagnostic evaluation of children with cardiac disorders. The purpose of this study is to determine guidelines for exercise testing in normal boys. Material and Methods: "Two hundred fifty three boys, aged between 6-14 years were studied using a modified Bruce protocol at University of Istanbul Institute of Cardiology. The children were divided into groups according to their age (6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 years age). In all groups; exercise endurance, exercise workload, peak exercise systolic and diastolic blood pressure and heart rate, increase in systolic and diastolic blood pressure and heart rate, double product were evaluated. Linear correlation analysis was used at statistical analysis. Results: All parameters increased by age in all groups. Atrial extrasystolic beats were detected in 6 chil-dren during the exercise test. Ischemic ECG changes did not occur in any of the subjects. P and T waves were increased with exercise in all boys. Ventricular extrasystolic beats were detected in 2 boys during the exercise test. Right bundle branch block occurred in one subject. conclusion: 'Me pre-sent study gave reference parameters for an exercise walking treadmill test in Turkish boys.
