Effects of wrist traction on pain and hand functions in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome

Özet

Amaç: Çalışma karpal tünel sendromu (KTS) tedavisinde traksiyonun etkinliğini araştırmak amacıyla yapıldı. Gereç ve yöntem: KTS tanısı olan 60 olgu rastgele yöntemle 2 gruba ayrılarak, kontrol grubundaki 30 bireye hot-pack, terapatik ultrason ve egzersiz programından oluşan konservatif tedavi yaklaşımı, traksiyon grubundaki 30 bireye ise bu tedavi yöntemlerine ek olarak ‘Carpal Trac’ KTS traksiyon aleti kullanılarak mekanik traksiyon uygulandı. Tedavi programı haftada 5 gün olmak üzere, 3 hafta süre ile uygulandı. Olgular tedavi öncesi ve sonrasında ağrı ve fonksiyonel yönden değerlendirildi. Abstract

Purpose: The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of traction in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) therapy. Material and methods: Sixty subjects with CTS were randomly allocated to two groups. Thirty subjects in the control group were treated with a conservative treatment method composed of hot pack, therapeutic ultrasound and exercise. Subjects in the traction group (N=30) underwent the same treatment program plus mechanic traction. Treatment lasted 3 weeks (5 days/week). All subjects were evaluated before and after treatment and the evaluations included pain and functional statement scales.
