Abstract
Objective: Hemogram tests are suitable for routine use, easy to analyse and can be utilised for detecting inflammation, which plays a role in cancer etiopathogenesis. In this study, we investigated whether certain hemogram parameters that have been recently recognised as inflammation markers, such as neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and platelet large cell ratio (PLCR), may be considered as colorectal cancer (CRC) biomarkers. Materials and Methods: The data studied included results of initial hemogram tests ordered in the tertiary hospital outpatient clinic for patients diagnosed with CRC between 01.01.2019 and 31.08.2019. The control group consisted of age- and gender-matched patients visiting the same hospital outpatient clinic for general examination. The exclusion criteria were diagnoses of infection, allergies or neoplastic/leukoproliferative disorders, or the presence of hemogram results out of normal ranges. Hemogram data of both groups were statistically evaluated. Results: 492 patients diagnosed with CRC and a control group of 327 were included in the study. NLR and PLR values of CRC patients were significantly higher compared to healthy controls (P
