Abstract

In this study, the effect of slag obtained from Elazig Ferrochromium Factory on compressive strength and impact energy of concrete was investigated. Maximum diameter of aggregate of concrete was chosen 4 mm, 8 mm, 16 mm and 32 mm sizes. Specimens were prepared by replacing the Portland cement (PC 32.5 type) with 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 % (by weight) slag ground to cement fineness. 28-day compressive strength and impact energy tests of concrete carried out on specimens prepared with constant slump (6-9 mm). Test results show that the compressive strength and impact energy of concrete increased with increasing maximum aggregate size. Furthermore, according to control concrete the higher and equal strengths were obtained for the concrete specimens with 3 % and 5 % slag respectively. The results of this study demonstrate that slug can be use as cementitious material up to 5 % to decrease cost in concrete.
