Sequential Pictorial Evidence of Excision of Ectopic Accessory Parotid Fistula in an Adult - A Rare Clinical Entity

Abstract

In this paper, we report a rare case of an ectopic accessory parotid gland fistula in an adult. A sequential pictorial account illustrated the surgical excision of the fistula in its entirety, and histopathology confirmed the parotid fistula. Tothe best of our knowledge, only one such case has been reported earlier in the English literature. Congenital parotidduct fistulas are a rare phenomenon, but the occurrence of the fistula in an otherwise healthy adult is even rarer. Twomonths post procedure, the patient continues to be symptom free. We used search engines such as PubMed, Medline, and Google Scholar and the Wiley Online library for a systematic review.
