Ahmet Midhat Efendi'nin Türklüğe Dair İsimli Önemli Bir Konferansı

Özet

Döneminin önemli simalarından biri olan Ahmet Midhat Efendi'nin hiç şüphesiz en dikkati çeken tarafı çok yönlü olmasıdır. Yazı yazmayı bütün yönleriyle kendisine meslek edinen yazarın; hikâye ve romancılıktan yayımcılık ve ansiklopedistliğe uzanan çok geniş bir ilgi alanı vardır. Böylesine çok yönlü bir şahsiyetin başta Batının felsefi fikirleri olmak üzere devrindeki bir çok sosyal ve siyasî muhtevalı düşüncelere ilgi duyması oldukça tabiîdir. Ömrünün son yıllarına kadar hiçbir görüşe tam olarak bağlanmayan yazar, 1908'de verdiği "Türklüğe Dair" isimli konferansında tam bir Türkçü münevver portresi çizer. Bu yüzden bu konferans hem yazarın hem de devrin hakim fikrinin tespit edilmesi açısından mühimdir.

Abstract

As one of the important figures of his time, Ahmet Mithad Efendi's most important chracteristic that requires attention is of being many sided. Choosing writing as a career, Ahmet Mithat Efendi had a wide interest in literature varrying from story, novel and encylopedia writing to publishing. An influential figüre, he showed interest in western philosophy, social and political thoughts of his time. Although he had not adopted any of these thoughts for the most part of his life, Ahmet Mithad Efendi's speech titled "About Turkism" portrayed himself as a genuine Turkish intellectual at a conference in 1908. As a result, this conference is important in respect to the fact that it indicates the dominant thought of him and his time.
