Abstract
The use of explosives in underground coal mines is quite common. The gases released after the use of explosive substances negatively affect the health of employees and also lead to time losses in the production due to the inability to determine the time to dilute them. In this study, volume flow rates, amounts of explosive substances used and CO levels (ppm) were determined in an underground coal mine where explosions were realized. Firstly, the amount of CO gas (m3/kg) produced by the explosive used during the blasting operation was calculated, and then the time required for the CO gas level to be lower than the limit value of 50 ppm according to Regulation on Occupational Health and Safety at Mine Workplaces was determined by a scientific approach. As a result, the ventilation time after the use of 1 kg explosive substance was determined to be average 16,12 minutes.
