Corruption, Prosperity and Sustainable Development: Some New Evidence

Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı yolsuzluğun refah verefahın sürdürülebilir olma özelliği üzerindekietkisini ortaya koymaktır. Bu amaçla sekizboyutlu olarak hesaplanmış olan bir refahdeğişkeni ve bu refah değişkeninin yardımıylatüretilen bir sürdürülebilir kalkınma değişkenikullanılarak, yolsuzluğun refah ve sürdürülebilirkalkınma üzerinde gerçekte ne kadar etkiliolduğu analiz edilmiştir. Analiz sonuçlarına göreyolsuzluk refah ve sürdürülebilir kalkınmaüzerinde önemli bir açıklama gücüne sahiptir. Buaçıklama gücü negatif yönlüdür ve oldukçayüksek anlamlılık düzeyine sahiptir. Yolsuzlukdüzeyi yükseldiğinde refah ve sürdürülebilirkalkınma düzeyi hayli azalmaktadır. Analizsonuçlarına göre yolsuzluğun refah üzerindekinegatif yönlü etkisi sürdürülebilir kalkınmaüzerindeki negatif etkisinden daha büyüktür.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyse the eff ect ofcorruption on prosperity and the sustainability ofprosperity. The eff ect that corruption has onprosperity and sustainable development isanalysed by a calculated eight dimensionprosperity variable and a sustainabledevelopment variable derived f rom theprosperity variable. According to the results ofthe analysis, corruption has signif icantexplanatory power on prosperity and sustainabledevelopment. This explanatory power isnegatively oriented and has quite a high level ofsignif icance. When the level of corruption rises,the level of prosperity and sustainabledevelopment highly diminishes. According to theresults of the analysis, the negatively orientedeff ect of corruption on prosperity is greater thanthe negative eff ect on sustainable development.
