Abstract

Summary: In this study we attempt to assess the effect of trauma in acute osteomyelitis. Six to eight weeks old white New Zealand rabbits were divided into three groups. Group I received an injury to the proximal libial metaphysis, group II received a standardized bacteremia with Staphylococcus aureus, group III recieved both the trauma and the bacteremia. Scintigraphy was done by Gallium-67 citrate, histopathological examination revealed diagnosis of osteomyelitis. In contrast to group I showing no AHO, AHO was seen in a case in group II and in all cases in group III.
