Abstract

Purpose : In this study, we aimed to search variables or invariables in endocrine profile under the influence of special factors of altitude (hypobaric hypoxia) on human beings who may possibly stay in midaltitude. Material and methods : This study has been carried out on 14 voluntary boyscouts at Erciyes mountain. The first measurement, was made, at an altitude of 1050 m at Erciyes University Campus and the second one at the camp at on altitude of 3200 m. Ten ml venous blood from each boyscout has been taken both at Erciyes University and at Erciyes Mountain. The samples were brought to the Nuclear Medicine Laboratory of Erciyes University (without ignoring cold-chain) and hormone levels have been determined by RIA tecnique. Results: The levels of hypophysis, thyroid and sex hormones at hypobaric hypoxia showed difference compared to the values of the first measurement. While the levels of GH, TSH, TT3, TT4 remained unchanged or significant decreases at different rates were found, some increases at the level of FSH, LH, PRL, testosterone and cortical were detected. Conclusion : It is necessary to make a research on the effect of endocrine profile caused by the special conditions including hypoxia, radiation, ozone, wind, cold weather, other physical and emotional stresses from the point of view of health, economics and security.
