The Symbol of Beauty and Ugliness (Insects) in the Poetry of Nizar Qabbani -A Semantic Study

Abstract

There is no doubt that poetry reveals the poet’s psychological and intellectual dimensions and reflects his culture. Since long ago, Arab authors have used the words of animals, birds and insects in their literary texts. Nizar Qabbani is one of the prominent names of modern poetry who wrote about women and politics. Based on a superior poetic style, Nizar Qabbani has incorporated many names of animals to express his thoughts and employing them in high-tech literary dimensions. This study will deal with the names of insects that specifically occur in the poem of Nizar Qabbani. What are the names of insects that the poet employed in his poetry, and what are the meanings that they carry? In order to answer these questions, the names of the insects were listed in the poet’s books and arranged alphabetically. This study is evaluated within the context of poetry and is based on various Arabic sources and references
