Abstract
In this study, effects of lead was investigated with respect to the growth and germination in maize (Zea mays L.) of C4 plants andwheat (Triticum aestivum L) of C3 plants. The seeds of maize and wheat were subjected to lead concentrations of 0,1,5,10,25,50,100,250,500 and 1000 ppm for germination tests. After 5 days amylase activity, the lengths of plumula and radicle of seeds were measured. At the growth tests, plants were irrigated with solutions 0,50,100,500 and 1000 ppm of $Pb(NO_3)_2$ and Hoagland's nutrient solution ,after maize and wheat were germinated in sand. After 20 days, the lengths of shoots and roots of plants, dry weight, chlorophyll, nitrogen and the accumulation of lead in the varies parts of plants were measured. In the results of the germination tests revealed that seeds were negative effected, however, plants were morphologically not effected at high concentrations. Uptake of lead was found to increase with increasing lead concentration.
