High school students' views about instruction of history lessons (A case Study in Ankara)

Özet

Tarihin insanlara cazip gelmesindeki en büyük nedenlerinden birisi insanlara geçmişte yapılanları göstermesi ve insanların geçmişten ders almasına yardımcı olmasıdır. Bu çalışmada tarih dersinin işlenişi ile ilgili öğrencilerin neler istediği, dersi işlerken öğrencilerin hangi sıkıntılarla karşılaştığı ve tarih dersine bakış açılarını göstermeyi amaçlamıştır. 660 öğrenciye anket çalışması ve açık uçlu sorular sorularak öğrencilerin görüşleri öğrenilmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre öğrenciler tarih dersinin sıkıcılıktan, ezberden, tek düzelikten kurtarılmasını; dersin daha akıcı, kendilerinin daha aktif olduğu ve öğretim materyallerini daha fazla kullanabildikleri bir ortamın olmasını istedikleri görülmüştür.

Abstract

One of the most important reasons that makes the History lesson attractive is presenting the annals which were experienced in the past. It also provides the opportunity of learning from History with the help of these experiences. In this study, the main aim was to find out the expectations of the students from the History lesson, to clarify the problems that are faced by the students in the lesson and to determine students’ attitudes towards the related lesson. A survey and open-ended questions were used to collect data about the opinions of 660 students. The findings of the study indicate that students want history lesson saved from such boring techniques as learning by hearth. Instead, they want to be active learners and use various teaching materials to create an enjoyable classroom atmosphere.
