Abstract

Kikuchi and Fujimoto or histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis is a'benign, rare disease probably associated to a viral infection, that affects mostly young women, which generally needs no treatment, because it runs a spontanously benign course with complete resolution of the sympptoms within a few months. Malignant lymphoma and especially lupus lymphadenitis can be mistaken for Kikuchi's disease; thus differentation is crucial. We report a case of Kikuchi's disease in a young girl with axillary and cervical lymphadenopathies. The diagnosis is established on the basis ofhistolgic lymphnode excisional biopsy. Secondary lupus erythematosus may develop and require regular follow up. It needs no treatment because the disease is generally mild and self limiting. Malignant lymphoma and SLE can be mistaken for Kikuchi's disease; thus differentation is crucial.
