Abstract

The increase in the level of sophistication of the products produced in a country is an important factor in increasing the competitiveness and the value added the country obtains in international trade. Turkey mainly exports medium-low and low-tech goods. The rank of Turkey in term of the Economic Complexity Index (ECI) is 46 for the period from 2011 to 2016. The present study aimed at analyzing the impact of Economic Complexity Index (ECI) and the reel effective exchange rate on the terms of tarde with Zivot and Andrews (1992) structural break unit root test and Johansen Co-integration Test (1990), using annual data for the period of 1982-2016. Results demonstrate that the effects of both the economic complexity index and the reel effective exchange rate the on terms of trade are positive and statistically significant.. The also reveals that there is a unilateral causality fom both the real effective exchange rate and the economis complexity index to the terms of trade.
