Özet

Birinci Dünya Savaşında Osmanlı coğrafyasının her köşesinde mücadeleler verilmiş, açılan cephelerde şiddetli muharebeler yapılmıştır.

Abstract

During the World War I, struggles were fought in every corner of the Ottoman geography, and fierce battles were fought on the fronts opened. In the first years of the war, one of the fronts that was given great strategic and military importance the Caucasian front. In the Caucasian front, some situations have arisen that hinder the defense. The land conditions that made the operation difficult were accompanied by adverse weather conditions and logistics activities were disrupted. In order to reduce the impact of this negative situation on the battle and to support the 3rd Army Command, which resisted the Russian attacks in the Caucasus front, the headquarters of the 2nd Army and 16th Corps Command were transferred to the Caucasian front with an order from the Deputy Commander-inChief.An experienced commander was needed for the implementation of this plan, which was made with the idea of saving the occupied places and preventing the Russians who occupied Muş and Bitlis from going further south. Drawing attention with his command in Çanakkale, Colonel Mustafa Kemal was seen as an ideal candidate and was appointed as the Commander of the 16th Corps. Mustafa Kemal, who started his duty with the rank of miralay, deployed his 16th Corps headquarters in Silvan. As a result of successful operations with 5th and 8th Divisions of the Corps, Bitlis and Muş were liberated from the occupation. During his inspection of the front, Mustafa Kemal Pasha's deployment of artillery surveillance and firing positions in places that can be seen from afar and giving importance to fortification contributed greatly to the success of the operation. The successful conclusion of these operations despite the insufficiency of logistical facilities in the region, the withdrawal movements and the battles of distraction during the operations, Mustafa Kemal Pasha's efforts to integrate with the people and to form militia forces were reflected in the decision-making processes during the National Struggle period. The purpose of this study is to cover the military organization of the 16th Corps Command, which has an important role in the Caucasian front, the battles and the reflections of these battles on Mustafa Kemal and the reflections of these battles on the National Struggle period, and to evaluate the operation within the scope of the principles of warfare
