Abstract

In this study, the effects of pumice powder substitution and polypropylene fiber reinforcement on the physical and mechanical properties of cement mortars were investigated. While preparing the mortar samples, CEM I 42.5 R type portland cement and standard sand were used. The water/binder ratio was kept constant at 0.5. The pumice powder added to the mixtures was replaced by 10% instead of cement. Polypropylene fiber was used with a length of 6 mm. Polypropylene was added to the pumice mortars mixture at the rates of 0.0%, 0.2%, 0.4% and 0.8% by volume. Fiber was not or pumice powder was added to the control mixture. The mixtures were placed in metal molds of 5×5×5 cm and 4×4×16 cm and kept in the laboratory for one day, then the relevant samples were taken from the molds and water cured for 28 days. On all sample series; slump test, water absorption, ultrasound, dynamic modulus of elasticity, hardened unit weight test, flexural strength test, compressive strength test after bending test were applied. As a result, it was determined that pumice powder increased the compressive strength, flexural strength, ultrasound transmission rate value, dynamic elasticity modulus a little compared to the control mixture, and decreased the water absorption value. It has been observed that with the addition of fiber, it increases the flexural strength at the optimum fiber ratio, but decreases the compressive strength a little.
