DENİZLİ’DE BASINA ADANAN BİR HAYAT: EROL ÖZBAL

Özet

Denizli basın hayatı Cumhuriyet döneminde gazete, dergi ve bültenler açısından zengin bir birikime sahiptir. Denizli’de 1909 yılında ‘Hülasa’ gazetesi ile başlayan basın hayatı 1950 yılından itibaren büyük bir hareketlilik kazanmıştır. Denizli gazetecilik hayatında Mustafa Naili Küçüka ve Gıyasi Şarman’ın açtıkları yoldan birçok gazeteci ilerlemiştir. Bu gazeteciler ile başlayan süreç birçok gazetecinin yetişmesine ve farklı isimlerle birçok gazete yayınlanmasının yolunu açmıştır. Denizli basını Denizli ve çevre vilayetlerden gazetecilik mesleğine ilgi duyanları kendisine çekmiştir. Denizli basın hayatına anlam katan, gazetecilik mesleğine yarım asra yakın emek veren isimlerden biri de Erol Özbal’dır. Bu çalışmanın amacı Denizli’de 1956’dan itibaren 1996’yılına kadar etkili bir şekilde gazetecilik mesleğinde söz sahibi olan Erol Özbal’ın özellikle Denizli basın hayatı içerisindeki yerini ortaya koymaktır. 1950’li yılların başından itibaren muhabirlik ile gazetecilik mesleğine adımını atan Özbal, Denizli basın hayatının en etkili yıllarında Denizli basınının içinde yetkin bir isim olmuştur. Muhabirlikten başladığı meslek hayatına gazete patronluğu ve 1990’lı yıllarda Denizli Gazeteciler Cemiyeti kuruculuğu ve başkanlığı ile sürdürmüştür. Özbal, gazeteci kimliği yanında, yaşadığı kente duyduğu sorumluluk ile sosyal, kültürel ve eğitim alanlarında Denizli’ye önemli kazanımlar sağlanmasına vesile olmuştur. Denizli merkezinde yayınlanan Denizli gazetesini düzenli bir şekilde kesintisiz yayınlayan Özbal, 1960’larda ilçelerde yayınladığı gazeteler ile ilçe gazeteciliğine de ilk öncülüğü yapmıştır. Bu çalışma ile gazeteciliğin her türlü teknolojiden yoksun olduğu bir dönemden, teknolojik zenginliğe ulaştığı bir döneme kadar Denizli basın hayatına şahitlik eden Özbal’ın Denizli basınına dair tespit edebildiğimiz katkıları ele alınmıştır. Denizli gazetesini adeta bir okul yaparak birçok gazetecinin yetişmesinde de etkili olan Özbal’ın çalışma hayatı; Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü Arşiv ve Dokümantasyon Daire Başkanlığı, Denizli Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığı belgeleri ile Denizli yerel basını, kitap ve makalelerden faydalanılarak ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır.

Abstract

Denizli press life has a rich accumulation in terms of newspapers, magazines, and newsletters during the Republican period. The press life in Denizli, which commenced with the newspaper 'Hülasa' in 1909, has gained a great activity since 1950. In Denizli journalism, many journalists made their way which was paved by Mustafa Naili Küçüka and Gıyasi Şarman. The process that started with these journalists enabled the upbringing of many fellow journalists and the publication of many newspapers with different names. Denizli press drew people from Denizli and the surrounding provinces who were interested in the profession of journalism. Erol Özbal is one of the names who contributed Denizli press life and worked in the journalism profession for nearly half a century. This study aims to show the place of Erol Özbal, who had actively worked as a journalist in Denizli from 1956 until 1996, especially in Denizli press life. Özbal entered the profession of journalism as a reporter in early 1950s, was a skillful figure in Denizli press during the most influential years of Denizli press life. He started his career as a reporter and continued his career as a newspaper boss and then in the 1990s as a founder and president of Denizli Journalists' Association. Özbal along with his journalist identity also led significant benefits to be gained for Denizli in social, cultural, and educational fields with his responsibility to the city where he lives. Besides the Denizli newspaper that he published in Denizli city center; he was the pioneer of the journalism in the districts with the newspapers he published in the districts of Denizli in 1960s. The study also attempts to evaluate his adventure of witnessing to a period from an era when journalism lacked all kinds of technologies to that of when it reached to technological developments as well as his contributions to the Denizli Press life that we were able to determine. The career of Özbal, who had important role in the upbringing of many journalists by making Denizli newspaper as it was a school, was brought together by making use of the documents from the Archives and Documentation Department of the General Directorate of Police and Office of Chief Public Prosecutor of Denizli, as well as local press of Denizli, books and articles.
