Abstract
Its area of influence and multi-elemental structure carried the Silk Road far beyond being an ordinary commercial route and laid the foundation for it to have a characteristic that draws attention to itself in all periods. Contrary to the name of the Silk Road, which was the main artery of the commerce between the east and the west throughout the centuries, and the softness of the silk that is the subject matter of the concerning trade, Silk Road meant covering highly difficult geographical grounds throughout the thousands of kilometers long route and is a striking example of the influence that the effect of resource differences has on the reorganization of the space. The geographical location it possesses has laid the foundation of numerous states being established in Anatolia throughout the historical process and each political organization creating a route system that is geared towards its own requirements. This convenient location of the Anatolian peninsula provided the opportunity for it to become one of the key spots that ensure the connection between the east and the west in the Silk Road system. In Anatolia, which served more as a transfer station, numerous harbors to serve this purpose, and in connection with the harbors, cities emerged and developed.
