Abstract

This study was carried out to determine the changes occurring in duodenum, jejunum and ileum of the quails exposed to light stress. For this purpose, the macroscopic investigations of small intestines and goblet cells of 90 Japanese quails were made. Duodenum, jejunum and ileum of the animals were removed and fixed in %10 formalin solution and routine blocking was applied. The sections prepared were stained with hematoxylin-eosin and periodic acid-shiff (PAS). The cell counting and organ measurements required were made and then the statistical analyses were applied. The results of assessing the macroscopic lengths of the duodenum and ileum showed that there were no statistical differences based on the gender and treatment. However, there was a reduction of the macroscopic length of the jejunum under the light stress. It was shown that the factors of gender and light increased the number of goblet cells in the duodenum, but with no significant change either in the jejunum or ileum.
