Abstract
In this study, stool specimens from a group of 100 persons, 40 females and 60 males, between the ages of 17 to 26 years were examined by direct and concentration methods. One or more kinds of intestinal parasites were found in 59 (59%) of the samples. The 38 of the positive samples were belong to males, and the remaining 21 to females. Distribution of intestinal parasites with respect to their types were as follows: A. lumbricoides 36%, T. saginata 9%, T. trichiura 3%, E. histolytica 5%, G. intestinalis 4%. In two stool specimens there were more than one parasites. Students with A. lumbricoides and/or T. trichiura were treated with mebendazole. Other cases with E. histolytica and/or G. intestinalis were administered metronidazole. As for the T. saginata cases, they were cured with niclosamide. The success of the treatment of patients were 66.7% for A. lumbricoides, 77.7% for T. saginata, 80% for E. histolytica, 100% for both T. trichiura and G. intestinalis.
