Abstract

Measurements were made on totally 196 cases in order to determine Q angle value (which is the clinical criterion of alignment formed anatomically by quadriceps femoris muscle) in supine and standing positions, and to observe how it changes according to the sex, position and knee axis. The results are evaluated statistically with student-t test. Mean Q angle in supine position in women were 12.97°, 12.74°; in men 10.59°, 10.75°; and in standing position the Q angle values in women were 13,69°, 13.98°and in men 10.38° and 10° in right and left knee respectively. The Q angle values of women were much higher statistically than those of men in both positions (pO.001), in knees with normal axis were found to be normal in women and higher in man in respect to the values indicated formerly. The Q angles in knees with varus were lower than the normal values. This angle difference between the knees with normal axis and the knees with varus was statistically significant. Q angle in standing position were higher than those of the angles in supine position as 0.95° in women and 0.77° in- men. This difference was not statistically significant (p> 0.05).
