Abstract
This research has been carried out methodologically with the aim of adapting the "Attitude Towards Work" scale to nurses. The scope of the research covered all nurses employed at Social Security Organization (SSK) hospitals, Ministry of Health (MoH) hospitals, and university and private hospitals located in Istanbul city. The study group was selected among nurses working in 8 public and private hospitals located in the Anatolian side of the city. The number of nurses to be included in the research was defined based on the number of items in the data collection tool, and in terms of the validity and reliability of the 66-item tool, the number of items were multiplied by six, resulting in the enrollment of a total of 400 nurses, 200 from each sector, using quota sampling method. A 5- point Likert-type scale developed by Ayşe Can Baysal in 1980 was taken as the basis in developing the data collection tool. An in-depth investigation revealed that the scale was one that is used in manufacturing businesses. Consequently, 14 items, shaped in light of the literature, were added to the scale. Upon receiving appropriate permissions, the data collection tool was applied in the involved hospitals. However, workable data could only be obtained from 352 of 400 nurses (i.e. response rate: 88%). Cronbach alpha coefficient, t-test in dependent groups, Pearson Product-moment production correlation, factor analysis and total item score correlation was used in the evaluation of the data, evaluation of the data obtained from the research revealed that the scale adapted to nurse-having 55 items categorized under 6 factorgroups - was a valid and a reliable scale, with a total Cronbach alpha value of .91.
