Özet

Ömrünü savaş meydanlarında geçirmiş olan Gazneli Mahmud; akıllı, cesur bir asker olduğu kadar döneminin âlim ve şairlerinin hamiliğiniyapmış çok yönlü bir yöneticidir. Kaynaklarda itikadi olarak sünni bir müslüman olduğu, küçük yaşlarında Kur'an'ı ezberlediği, döneminin mutasavvıfları ve âlimleriyle yakın ilişkiler içerisinde olduğu belirtilen sultan; seferlerinide cihat duygusuyla gerçekleştirmiş ve kendisine İslam uğruna yapmış olduğu çalışmalarından dolayı halife tarafından yeminüddevle ve emînülmille unvanı yanında pek çok unvan verilmiştir. Yaptıklarıyla tarihte iz bırakmış olanGazneli Mahmud, zaman içerisinde menkıbevi bir kişiliğe bürünmüş ve yaşadığı dönemden itibaren hikâyelere konu olmuştur. Bu çalışmada önceliklekaynaklardan hareketle Gazneli Mahmud'un hayatı ve tarihî kişiliği hakkındabilgi verilecek akabinde kaynaklarda tespit edilebilen Gazneli Mahmud hikâyeleri kısaca tanıtılarak hikâyelerde vurgulanan karakter özelliklerinedair bazı hususlara dikkat çekilecektir.

Abstract

Mahmud of Gazne who spent his life on the battlefield, is a smart and brave soldier. He was a versatile ruler and the protector of scholars and poets of the period. At the same time, it is stated in the sources that he was a Sunni Muslim and that he memorized the Qur'an at a young age. The sultan, who was stated to have close relations with the Sufis and scholars of the period, carried out his operations with the sense of jihad, and he was given many titles by the caliph such as "yeminüddevle and emînülmille" because of his works he did for the sake of Islam. Mahmud of Gazne, who left his mark in history with his actions, has become a legendary person and has been the subject of stories since his time. In this study, firstly, information will be given about the life and historical personality of Mahmud of Gazne. Further, the stories of Mahmud of Gazne that can be found out in the literature will be briefly introduced, and some aspects of the character traits observed in the stories will be highlighted.
