Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of different socio-economic characteristics of undergraduate students on conscious consumption behavior. The universe of the study consists of the students at the universities in Ankara. The sample of the study consisted of 400 students. Demographic data form and Conscious Consumer Scale consisting of four sub-dimensions and 25 items developed by Buğday were used as data collection tools. In order to test the relationship between the sub-dimensions of the Conscious Consumer Scale and independent variables, t-test and one-factor analysis of variance were applied. Among the sub-dimensions of the Conscious Consumption Scale, there was a significant relationship between the environmental conscious consumption dimension and gender and perception of monthly pocket money level. There is a significant relationship between the mean score of the sub-dimension of students' ethical consumption and the amount of monthly pocket money, perception of monthly pocket level, and for what the pocket money is spent most. It was determined that the relationship is significant between the simple consumption dimension and gender, age, the quality of the university, monthly pocket money amount, perception of pocket money level and for what the pocket money is spent most. On the other hand, social responsibility was related only gender and the quality of university.
