Abstract

In this study, IPS Empress heat- pressed ceramic and refroctory die techniques were used for evaluating the microleakage of porcelain laminate veneers. Teeth preparations were standartized and finish lines were placed in enamel. The shoulder of the teeth was prepared as chamfer and the incisal as overlap. The contacts in the proximal region were not included into preparation. Also in both techniques, porcelain etching materials, silane agent, acid, time of acid etching, emameldentin bonding agent and the polishing materials were standartized.. 20 porcelain specimens, prepared from each system, were bonded to teeth by dual composite resin cement. Thermalcycling at 5 $circ$C±1 and 55 $circ$C±1 for 500 times, were applied and then they were immersed into methyl blue solution for 5 hours. After the specimens were embedded into transparent autopolimerized resin, they were mouted into a surface microscope and the photographs of the sections were taken by putting milimetric template on to the specimen sections. The photos were scanned and the data were transferred to a computer. Measurements were made on the photos by using Corel draw 8.0 Programme. The results were evaluated by dependent and independent t-tests. In the microleakage test, there was astatistically significant difference found between the shoulder and incisal edges of the refractory die porcelain specimens. The amount of microleakage at the shoulder region of IPS Empress specimens were lower than the refractory die specimens. The difference between them was not statistically significant. The same results were observed for the incisal region but the difference between the specimens was statistically significant.
