Abstract

This study investigated the strength properties of various composites (Silux Plus, Z 100) compomer (Compoglass F, Dyract AP ) and resin modified glass ionomer (Fuji II LC) restorative materials. The materials were assumed to be applied in a Class V cavity of a maxillary central incisor. 3-DimensionaI Finite Element Method and NASTRAN package was used during the study. The tooth whose model was adopted from Wheeler had 294 elements and 420 nodes. An incisal loading of 20 kg acting at an angle of 26$circ$ with the longitudional axis was applied to the teeth. The possible effects of different load magnitudes and different loading angles were also studied. For this purpose loads of 10 kg and 40 kg and the loading angles of 0$circ$ and 90$circ$ were also taken into consideration. It was found out that the increase in the loading angle effects more prominently than the increase in the amount of the load but both creates larger stresses in the tooth. It was also determined that the stresses developed in the restored teeth were reduced with an increase in the the Modulus of Elasticity of the restorative materials. Hence in this study, Z 100 which has the largest modulus of elasticity was performed better than the other materials concerned.
