Abstract

The criteria used in removing of carious dentine in the clinic are colour and hardness. Researchers reported that the use of staining solution in this process might be useful in the protection the remove of the level which isn't infected and the detection of carious dentine which cavity may remain. The research was carried out with the aim of comparing the rates of remained carious detected by means of carious detector in the cavities opened by 3d class and 5* class students. In the study, 95 Black I and 87 Black II cavities for 139 molar and 43 premolar teeth of patients appliying for the Department of Restorative Dentistry were made to open by 3d and 5* class students. 103 of these cavities were prepared by 5* class students, and 79 of them by 3d class students. The existence of carious in cavities was fixed by means of carious detector. While the staining is fixed in 72 of 182 cavities prepared in molar and premolar teeth (39.6 %), it was detected that 32 cavities of stained ones(44.4 %) was opened by 5* class students, and 40 of them (55.6 %) was opened by 3d class students. When the rates of remaining carious among 2 class students were compared, there was no statistically significant correlation.( x 2 = P>0.05) In the same way, when the rates of remaining carious of the 3d and 5* class students in molar teeth were examined, there was statistically significant correlation (x2 = P< 0.05 ) but there was no statistically significant correlation.in premolar teeth. When success rates of Black I and Black II class cavities of the same students were compared to, the rates of remaining carious among 3d and 5* class students in class I cavities weren't statistically significant while there was statistically significant correlation among the rates of remaining carious in class II cavities. In conclusion, when premolar teeth were compared to, it was observed that especially carious lesions were more common and in molar teeth which direct study was difficult, the success in the preperation of cavity of 5* class students became paralel tö clinical experience.
