History of physical education in Turkey and development of physical education and sports

Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Osmanlı Dönemi’nden (Özellikle 1839-1876 Tanzimat Dönemi) günümüzekadar Türk spor tarihi içerisinde beden eğitimi ve spor alanındaki gelişmeyi daha da ileriye götürmekiçin gösterilen çabaları ve geleceğe yönelik olarak hazırlanmış olan programları incelemektir. OsmanlıDevleti, eğitim ve spor gibi alanlarda etkisi hâlen görülen önemli gelişmeler kaydetmiştir.Avrupa’daki sistemlerin benimsenmesi her alanda olduğu gibi beden eğitimi ve spor alanında da daetkili olmuştur. Bu dönemde Türkiye’de toplumsal hayatta ve eğitimde spor olgusu daha belirgin birkonum kazanmış ve büyük bir gelişme göstermiştir. Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin ilk yıllarında alınan vebu alanda dünyada ilk olan bir kararla “beden eğitimi” bütün eğitim kurumlarında mecburi ders olarakkabul edilmiştir. Zamanla, birçok strateji geliştirilmiş ve spor şuraları yapılmıştır.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the attempts made to improve the progress of the physicaleducation and sports in the history of Turkish sports- from the period of Ottoman Empire (especiallybetween 1839-1876) to the present- and plans made for the future. Ottoman Empire made importantprogress the effects of which are still evident in such fields as education and sports. The appreciationfor European Systems had influences on education and sports as well as any other field. The conceptof sports in Turkey acquired clear position within the social life and education in this period andimproved immensely. During the early years of the Republic of Turkey, “physical education” wasmade a requisite course in all educational institutions, which was the first decision taken in this sensein the world. In time, many strategies have been developed and sport councils have been established.
