Abstract
The Ottoman army embarked on a campaign against Bulgaria, during the Balkan War, known as the Black Sea Operation. Black Sea was the main route of Ottoman army to supply provisions and logistic support to its army troops deployed in Balkans. On this sea, two major ports, namely the port of Skopje and Port of Varna served as the main supply gathering stations for Ottoman and Bulgarian armies, respectively. The main target of Black Sea Operation was therefore to secure logistic support both for the central army and troops deployed overseas, while blocking the enemy shipments. Based on this idea, battleships belonging to the Ottoman navy attempted a permanent blockade and bombing of the Port of Varna. Throughout the battle, various hardships and troubles were encountered similar to those reported in other battle fronts, which collectively forced Ottoman Navy to pursue armed conflicts on both Black Sea and Aegean Sea, at the same time.
